The good, the bad of using Google sites

Cons: 

• No "lazy load" facility for images for faster load time, you need to manually optimise and resize your higher quality images and link to the full-size image file in google drive or another image storage website .flickr.com or free cloud storage. 

• At present newer .webp extension is supported but Google site display them in their own jpg version so does take advantage of the extension. 

• The lack of being able manually adjust and customise the CSS top, bottom margins and the padding within Google sites website builder.  However Google sites latest update Nov-22 you can now add a spacer to create margins top and bottom, not so sure how that will effect SEO so make sure you have plenty of related content.

• Unable to add meta tags for SEO optimisation, however adding a title to each page with good description keywords within first paragraph of your related content according to Google is the key.

• No AdSense, crazy as its seams being an actual Google product you can have AdSense, monetise your site by manual adding your own affiliate links and banner ads, be sure to check Google's T&Cs.

• No out of the box ecommerce feature , however for smaller shops you can add payment buttons (PayPal - Stripe) and scripts code via Embed function.

• A bit of a hassle to add your own custom domain, but, there is no fee or upgrade required.

• No automatic way to organise categories. Not really suitable for blogging although not impossible.

Pros:

• Once you have mastered the few quirky bits you can build a fantastic looking website no limit on pages you can have.

• Easy to add PayPal or Stripe  buy it now or cart buttons.

• Mobile responsive.

• No head ache backend maintenance or having to continually update themes and plugins, all the software updates and security is done by Google.

• Easy to backup your website either using the Duplicate Site under the three-dot menu or by copying the file within Google Drive,  Easy to export the whole website and install onto another google drive. 

• Unlimited traffic, whopping 15GB  free storage space with a standard  Google user account and Essentials workspace account.

• Easy to add documents from Google drive.

• Google sites have now added whole page embed code , this means you can create custom CSS HTML pages  and more ecommerce capabilities  within your website.

• You can monetise your website manually using advertising affiliates links . See Google terms & conditions, vendors conditions relating and legal obligation relevant to their use.

• Very easy to make your website available to private individuals or public.
